Herdshares are available for this herd of heritage breed British Guernsey goats. $10 buy-in per share, $2-4 jar deposit per share, and $16-18/month per share boarding fee (price subject to change year by year depending on feed costs). One share = approximately 1 quart of milk per week (can vary depending on time of year but is often slightly more). Goats are fed organic (or GMO-free if organic is unavailable) grain/alfalfa mix on the milking stand, free range grazing and mixed grass/legume hay. They are not Certified Organic but strive to maintain as natural and chemical free herd as is possible. They offer dairy herdshares with whole, unprocessed milk. They also raise Heritage Berkshire pigs, broiler chickens, New Zealand/Californian cross rabbit and Angus cross beef. Free range Hyline hens complete the farm animals. All their livestock is supplemented with a non-GMO grain when pasture or foraging isn't available and they are all naturally raised without the use of hormones, steroids or chemicals. They also offer Heritage Berkshire pork shares - call for current pricing and availability. Spring/Summer Broiler chickens are $3.75/lb with an average weight of 6-8 lbs. Meat rabbits are $6/lb dressed. Chicken eggs are $3/dz. No-spray seasonal fruit and vegetables are offered such as peaches at $35/half bushel (2016 pricing), multi varietel grapes at $15/half bushel (2016 pricing), tomatoes, peppers, kale, squash - summer and winter, brussels sprouts, beets, cucumbers, cabbage, etc. All of the fruits and vegetables are naturally grown without the use of any harsh chemicals. Cottonwood Farm is located 20 minutes southwest of Florence and 10 miles from downtown Tuscumbia. They milk Guernseys that are A2/A2 Beta Casein. They practice rotational grazing with their cows. They supplement with alfalfa and grass hay. At milking time, cows are provided a small amount of non-GMO feed. The cows have constant access to a free choice minerals. Their cows are tested annually for Johne's, Brucellosis, BLV, and TB. The milk is tested for common diseases and bacteria at an independent lab on a regular basis. Cottonwood Farm also has laying hens which follow their cows in the pasture producing free range eggs. They are supplemented with free choice non-GMO feed. The farm also raise heritage breeds of pork that are raised in pasture and forest supplemented with non-GMO feed. During the Thanksgiving season, the farm has pasture-raised turkeys.
