Buttercup Farms is a raw milk dairy in Howard, CO, serving the central Colorado Rockies including the communities of Salida, Buena Vista, FairPlay, Breckenridge, Silverthorne, Edwards, Eagle and Leadville. Raw milk cowshares are available through a contractual relationship with Buttercup Farms. Membership in the dairy is a one-time nonrefundable fee of $25. Then you pay a monthly share fee of $30 for a half share or $60 for a whole share. A whole share is equivalent to one gallon per week. All milk is bottled in glass jars which must be cleaned and recycled back to the dairy on a regular basis. Milk containers are then sterilized before the following bottling. An annual jar fee (once a year) of $10/share is required to offset lost, broken or otherwise unreturned jars. The dairy is a small herd of purebred Jerseys that are grassfed on a three-acre parcel; they are supplemented with alfalfa hay throughout the year. Grain is not part of their diet. Chickens raised on pasture provide organically produced eggs. They also offer organic vegetables, fruit and healthy sources of beef, lamb, pork, and chicken. Call or email David for more information. Raw milk available year round. Cows are machine milked. The milk is tested, double filtered (while milking and again for storage), and bottled/tank refrigerated immediately after milking. You may visit the farm to watch the process if you like. Cows are not given antibiotics or hormones. Most of the milk is A2/A2 and the farm is working toward 100% A2/A2.
The farm is a past commercial dairy with a commercial refrigerated tank. Thus they can also offer bulk quantities with appropriate containers and prior notice. When they have surplus milk and by giving them ample warning, you may be able to indulge in adventures in making cheese, ice cream, butter, and/or yogurt. Or become a weekly/bi-weekly or monthly customer via subscription (preferred) for reserved milk. Milk is sold in your supplied container (the farm does try to keep jars on hand for sale), then switched out (after thorough cleaning), then returned with your name on it.
Current prices are $7/gallon or $3.50/half-gallon for cow's milk. Quantity discount available for cheesemaking or milk projects (with provided food-safe 5-gallon bucket).
Farm is right off of Highway 67, behind Mineral Area College a couple of miles.

Havenly Homestead has fresh, raw cow milk available for purchase.
You will receive their cream line raw milk in half gallon mason jars, which will require a small deposit on each jar to insure against breakage, etc., which is refundable upon return.
Each half gallon of milk will be $4, plus $2 for the jar deposit on your first purchase. When you’re ready for more milk, return the cleaned jar and your next purchase is only $4/half gallon with NO deposit. Or if you’ve decided you don’t want to purchase again, simply return the cleaned jar and you will get your $2 per jar deposit back.
The cows are on 24/7 access to fresh pasture and hay, loose mineral, and they get a scoop of a feed each day in the stanchion at milking time.
They aim for “mostly” grassfed, but cows do require a bit of supplemental feed-especially when in milk when their bodies are putting so much more energy into producing milk instead of their own condition.
*Due to Oklahoma law, raw milk must be picked up at the farm and cannot be delivered. Conveniently located right off of Highway 177 & Highway 59B in Macomb, OK.
