Heritage Farms milks registered A2/A2 Jerseys twice daily. They are primarily grass fed, supplemented with organic alfalfa, fescue hay, and given all necessary mineral supplements.
The cows are sprayed daily with organic fly spray to prevent transmissible diseases. The cows' udders are cleaned with an antibacterial dip before and after milking to prevent mastitis. Milking equipment is cleaned and sterilized after each use. Each cow's milk is kept separate, dated and labeled as to which cow it came to track quality and health.

Farmer's statement:
"Heritage Farms provides the freshest, most nutritious, sweet, butter yellow raw milk. You just can't match the taste and quality anywhere. We believe that to produce safe, high quality, nutritious milk you must focus on four objectives:
"1. HEALTH: This starts with the quality of the cow. Each of our Jerseys is registered and A2/A2. When they first come to the farm, blood work is immediately done to assure a clean bill of health. Each cow is immediately started on our high quality minerals and nutrition program.
"2. SANITATION: Bacteria is the greatest risk when harvesting raw milk for consumption. We strive for a clean environment for our cows. Because flies are the culprit for spreading disease and infection, our stalls are cleaned daily and cows are sprayed daily with organic fly spray as needed. Our milking equipment is cleaned and sterilized after each use. The cow's udder is prepped with antibacterial dip before and after milking to prevent mastitis. Hands are washed before and after harvesting. To prevent cross-contamination, we do not mix milk from different cows. Every drop of milk from each cow is dated and identified from which cow it was harvested to track the health of each cow.
"3. MINERALS: Just because milk tastes good doesn't mean it's nutritious. To achieve the greatest healing power of raw milk, minerals are the key. Our Jersey cows are put on the highest quality macro/micro minerals.
"4. TASTE: Taste has to do with what the cow eats. Our cows are grass fed and supplemented with organic alfalfa and fescue hay for the best tasting milk possible."

Jewel Hill Farms offers raw milk through their dairy cowshare program. They are a small sixth generation family farm just outside of Marshall, NC; raising A2/A2 registered Jersey dairy cows that enjoy free access to grass/hay, free choice minerals, and (tested) fresh water outdoors. Cows are fed a small amount non-GMO grain at milking time and are given absolutely no growth hormones; and no antibiotics, or other medication on a regular basis. One dairy share provides a member with one gallon (on average) of raw milk per week. Transport kits comprised of sanitizable coolers, ice wraps, and half-gallon glass jars with plastic lids are included with dairy shares by deposit. Shares may also be used for butter, yogurt, or cheese when available. They also, in accordance with NC state law, sell pet milk (not for human consumption) for $6/half gallon. Shares and pet milk may be picked up during scheduled times at the farm, or once a week in Asheville. Jewel Hill Farms uses an on-farm laboratory to ensure their milk is tested regularly, is safe, and exceeds commercial dairy standards. They maintain the same high standards of care with milk for pet consumption. Test results are published monthly on Jewel Hill Farms Facebook page. They are accredited by the Raw Milk Institute for following approved procedures and best practices at the farm and in the milk parlor. As seasonally available, Jewel Hill Farms also offers fresh fruit, heritage breed eggs and local honey all produced right on the farm. The Ramseys invite you to visit the farm to see how a small dairy farm operates and meet your cows! Email for more information, or to schedule your visit to purchase a dairy share.

Heritage American Milking Devon cows, rotationally grazed on clover/grass pasture year round. Supplemented with organic alfalfa pellets and chaff hay when milked or in training. No grain, no herbicides or pesticides. Milk is stored in glass containers, and available year round through a cowshare program. West Cote Farm is an organically produced micro-dairy operating on pastures in the Piedmont region of Virginia. Their herd of four American Milking Devon's (AMDs) are still hand milked using the cleanest standards available. They chose the AMD to milk and to assist in preserving the breed. AMDs are a critically endangered species because their volume of milk output cannot compete with commercial breeds. Please email them for further information regarding cowshare program.
