Offering raw goat milk year-round via herdshares, with pickup locations in Anchorage, Eagle River, and Palmer as well as at the farm. Goats are fed local grass hay and alfalfa, supplemented with a corn and soy-free feed, barley fodder, sea kelp, and organically derived minerals. The entire herd is tested annually, and is negative for CAE, CL, and Johne's. Lactating or food-producing animals are treated holistically, without antibiotics, growth hormones, or chemicals. They typically have 2-3 adult milkers for sale each year, as well as registered Alpine kids as future milking does and pack wethers. Cottonwood Farm is located 20 minutes southwest of Florence and 10 miles from downtown Tuscumbia. They milk Guernseys that are A2/A2 Beta Casein. They practice rotational grazing with their cows. They supplement with alfalfa and grass hay. At milking time, cows are provided a small amount of non-GMO feed. The cows have constant access to a free choice minerals. Their cows are tested annually for Johne's, Brucellosis, BLV, and TB. The milk is tested for common diseases and bacteria at an independent lab on a regular basis. Cottonwood Farm also has laying hens which follow their cows in the pasture producing free range eggs. They are supplemented with free choice non-GMO feed. The farm also raise heritage breeds of pork that are raised in pasture and forest supplemented with non-GMO feed. During the Thanksgiving season, the farm has pasture-raised turkeys. Dairy cows: Jersey cows and Brown Swiss. all cows are fed orchard-alfalfa hay and are on pasture grasses. They get fresh water from a water line hookup and top minerals for body health. Thorine, conditioner, multi-minerals are free choice for all cows. All cows are tested regularly; each cow having their own files listing their testing for diseases (BVD, Johnes, Bucellus). They also test each cow for BLV and do an udder panel for mastitis. They test cows' udders for butter fat content of their milk and for SCC (udder health). They also test cow milk for any pathogens. Raw cow milk and homemade yogurt from Normande cows. All cows are DNA tested to only carry the A2 milk protein. Cows graze on irrigated meadow and ranch pasture in summer and are fed grass/alfalfa hay raised right on the ranch. Grain ration is rolled barley with flax and black oil sunflower seed. Cows are given free choice mineral and salt. Cows are tested for TB, Brucellosis and Johnes. Milk quality is tested several times a year for somatic cell count, MUN and components such a butterfat and protein. Milk is filtered and quickly chilled in a cold water bath. Sold in glass half gallon jars, $5/half gallon. The breeding schedule of cows is staggered to allow milk availability year-round. Milk can be picked up at the ranch in Leiter, or is available in Buffalo, Gillette, and Sheridan. Other delivery locations in surrounding areas can be discussed. Raw milk, yogurt, butter, and ricotta cheese from Jersey cows grazing on grass, fruits and hay in the winter. The cows do eat sweet feed during milking. No hormones, antibiotics or chemical wormers.
