  4. I’m doing a paper for an English Comp class arguing for the right to choose raw milk without gvt. interference.
    There was an article by John Sheehan that made a lot of accusations about raw milk and The Weston Foundation refuted all of them. He also did a power point presentation and I found that, but I can’t seem to find the article. I’m sure he wrote more than one but this one was within the last year. Any clues???

  5. I live in Toronto Ontario Canada. Are there farms where I can buy raw milk and join a cow share program? Is there a legal way to get raw milk as of now? Which farmers offer the consumer option. Im willing to drive out of this city.

    I realise this is a question that is not directly related to the topic. But here goes.

    I’ll buy some raw cream tomorrow and wants to make butter out of it. But the dairy clearly warned me against it saying that I was not allowed to heat it to 20C to have it go sour. Is this really a problem a long as the cows are not infected with any harmful bacteria?

      • Sorry for not being clear.
        I meant leaving it at room temperature to let it ferment. I would then let it cool in the fridge before churning it.
        I just dont see the big deal about it if I leave it at room temperature (20-25C) for some hours.

      • I got the raw cream and the guy just said that I shouldn’t let it ferment because it makes all bacteria grow – including any potential bad ones. So it was more because he didn’t want me to get sick.

          • Thank you. I’ll have a look at that.

            My idea was to try to let it ferment by itself to begin for the first batch. I’ll try adding a culture for the next one and taste the difference.

  7. I buy raw milk every week and I have about a quart that is starting to go bad (hubby went out of town and we didn’t drink as much of it that week), what can I make with it? The kids won’t drink it, smells funny. I also have a quart of raw buttermilk that got “lost” in the back of the fridge, it smells a little sour but I’m sure there is something I can do with it. Can you help?

  8. I live in a country where lots of village people make their own dairy products and they will seel raw milk. But they always caution to boil it. When making Matsoni (Georgia’s plain yogurt), they tell me “boil raw milk and let cool. Then add 1 spoon of Matsoni ….”

    I have read that boiling raw milk removes it’s ability to destroy pathogens. But I think the reason people here boil it is because there is not testing of cows and maybe not good hygeinic practices.

    Can you please tell me if I find certified organic dairy farm then is the milk OK to take directly from cow to table without boiling?

    • I checked with Sally Fallon Morell about your question. She said, “I believe people boil the milk because of health workers in the 1930s and 1940s telling them to do so. Still I understand that someone would not want to drink milk unless it came from clean conditions. The problem is that in recent studies on asthma, allergies and skin problems, raw milk was very protective but milk that had been boiled lost the protective properties.”

  9. I live in the country of Georgia (NOT the US State). Many villagers use raw milk but even they boil it before drinking. Someone who is working to help get farms organic certified said there is no source now for raw milk that properly tests the cows and has proper methods for delivering clean raw milk (such as quickly cooling immediately after milking).

    However, my understanding is most of them make their butter and cheese from the unboiled milk, only boiling the milk for drinking or making yogurt or kefir.

    Is using boiled raw milk the next best thing? How much does boiling negate the positive benefits of raw milk? I am new to this whole idea. Please help!

  10. I was just looking through the raw milk finder for Texas and did not see Lucky Layla Farms listed? They are located in Plano, TX and I have bought many gallons of raw milk from them. I thought at one time they where on the list and sitting here hoping they were not pulled because of one person claiming to have gotten sick from their milk.

  11. I have been drinking raw milk since 1993. Can’t hardly stand that store bought stuff anymore. Have my own cow that will test clean of Brucelosis, TB, and Johnnes. We have given milk away to those who wanted to try it, and always got positive responses back. We make our own butter and nothing like whipped cream, ummm goood. We have considered trying to do a cow share program here. But I raise calves on the cow too. So I would need to invest in another cow. My biggest concern is I am literaly in the middle of the state of Texas and have found very little in the way of a market. I’m sure there are people out here looking for raw milk . But contacts are tough to find. Good cows are not cheap either. If I could find enough people interested in my area we could discuss the possibilities. I’m 3 hours north of San Antonio and an hour and a half from both Abilene and San Angelo. I’ve been milking for nearly 20 years, just for family. But I see the desire of others who want healthier foods.
    We hope to branch out to grass raised beef and chicken in the near future.

  12. I’ve been looking for “Activated Raw Butter OIl”. If you’ve read more in-depth Weston Prices’ articles; you will have heard about using butter oil mixed in Activated Cod Liver Oil to heal tooth decay; however; I’m confused as to where you can purchase these pure, raw, activated oils. Dr Mercola doesn’t even have any listed on his site. How would you make your own butter oil? There is some on sale on Amazon but how do I know it’s “activated”; and what does that mean? Fermented?
