Welcome Grove Homestead is a family operation, raising cows, goats, pigs, poultry, and everything in between. Their dairy goat herd is comprised of a mixed herd of Nigerian dwarfs, nubians, and alpines all contributing to the milk pail. They have free access to home-grown unsprayed hay, forage, and a custom blend grain while in milk. Goats are dried off at Christmas to allow a break during pregnancy, and production resumes in the spring after they kid, usually about mid-March.
The dairy cow herd consists of mostly Jerseys, and one Swedish red and white cow. All but one cow in the herd is A2/A2, and the one outlier is A1/A2. A2/A2 milk can be pulled separately by request with advance notice. The cows have 24/7 access to unsprayed pasture, home-grown unsprayed hay in the winter, and receive alfalfa hay and locally milled grain while in milk. Cows are in milk year-round due to timed breedings allowing to rotate drying off so that they are never without milk.
