This goat herd is made up of Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf goats. The goats live in the farm's pastures. Five Fingers Farm uses rotational and intensive grazing techniques to build soil and promote the health of their goats. They supplement their diet, when needed, with locally grown grains and hay. On rare occasions, when one of the herd gets sick, they use holistic and natural practices to treat them. The herd is tested annually for brucellosis and tuberculosis.
The farmers milk in the fields, in the fresh air and sunshine. They use clean, stainless steel buckets to collect the milk. After milking, they strain the milk, bottle it and put it in the chiller to stay cold.
To buy into the herd share, there is a one-time fee of $50 and a $40 per month caretaking fee. It is anticipated that you will receive an average of 1/2 gallon of milk per week, per share that you own. Milk is a seasonal product. Typically the farm milks six months a year, from April to October.

Owners of Nubian Dairy Goats for over 35 years. The goats have access to grass pasture and are supplemented with alfalfa/grass hay. They are fed grain when they are milked. Goats are milked by a milking machine or hand milked. Filtered with the same milk filters used in the commercial dairies and milk is quick-cooled in the freezer. Stalls are cleaned every week or as needed. $10/gallon. Tours are available. Please call ahead and make sure someone will be home. Milk will be placed in refrigerator on the front porch for pick up.
